REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

Date: 23-26.01.2025

The school celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour across all grades through various engaging activities that fostered creativity, cultural awareness, and national pride.

Pre-Primary

  • Jr. KG: Students came dressed in traditional attire, watched an educational video on Republic Day, and learned about national symbols. They coloured a tiger and created tricoloured flowers.
  • Sr. KG: Explored cultural pride through dressing in traditional and tricoloured outfits. Activities included a hand-printing peacock and a dabbing art activity of national symbols, fostering creativity and patriotism.

Grades: 1 & 2

Students came dressed in traditional attire and shared insights about their culture, food, and clothing. They participated in a special craft activity, making tricoloured badges representing the Indian national flag, promoting patriotism and creativity.

Grades: 3 to 5

  • Grade 3: Engaged in a poster-making activity on Promoting a Sustainable India, highlighting eco-friendly practices and sustainable living.
  • Grade 4: Created posters on India of My Dreams, envisioning a cleaner, greener, and progressive nation.
  • Grade 5: Took part in Draw India, Build the Future, creatively linking India’s heritage with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through artwork and explanations.

Grades: 6 to 7

Students composed patriotic poems in English, Hindi, and Marathi.

Grades: 8 & 9

The Principal, Mrs. Kotian, unfurled the National Flag which was followed by a prayer service. Grade 8 presented Lens It on Armed Forces, highlighting the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, and inspiring students to consider a career in the defence sector.

The event, live-streamed on the school’s YouTube channel, also showcased glimpses of activities conducted for Grades K to 8 in commemoration of this day.

The celebrations successfully instilled national pride, cultural awareness, and creative expression among students across all grades.

ICSE 2025 VALEDICTORY SERVICE

Date: 24.01.2025

Venue: The Mark David Hall

The event commenced with the song May the Good Lord Bless Them, followed by a Bible reading, responsive prayer, and Benediction. Grade 10 Valedictorians, Rian Sangam, Rhea Gupta and Celeste Ditto Nadar, expressed gratitude to the school, the Principal Ms J. Kotian, the teaching staff and the support staff. They acknowledged the values instilled and their memorable experience in school. Grade 10 Class teachers shared a few pearls of wisdom and fond memories, encouraging students to uphold the values learnt, to persevere, and trust in God as they embark on their new journeys.

CHANGE OF GUARD

The programme commenced with a prayer, setting a reflective tone. Outgoing Captain, Ranit Senthilnathan, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school community and shared a poignant quote from Batman: "It's not who we are underneath, but what we do that defines us. Principal Ms J. Kotian offered words of encouragement to those not selected, motivating them to persevere and find their path to success. She then announced the newly elected Student Council, introducing them to the students. The outgoing council was warmly recognised for their dedication and outstanding contributions.

ELECTIVE ORIENTATION

Our Principal, Ms. J. Kotian, provided a comprehensive overview of the ICSE electives and the accompanying mark distribution. She introduced Robotics and Artificial Intelligence as exciting new offerings for students. Subject teachers addressed queries, while Counselor Ms. Mayura emphasised the significance of informed academic decisions for students’ future success. The session concluded with a Q&A led by Senior Academic Coordinator Ms Selvaraj, leaving parents thoroughly satisfied and well-informed.

THEME BASED ASSEMBLY

Erasing Divides: The Fight Against Racial Discrimination

Students commemorated the Day of People Struggling Against Racism and Racial Discrimination. The assembly focused on the ongoing fight for equality, featuring a compelling poem, a historical overview tracing the origins of racism, and a thought-provoking conclusion on how students can make a difference by changing their mindset and fostering inclusivity.

THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Theme: 'La Musicale – Where Every Story Meets a Song'

The Annual Christmas Concert, was a captivating celebration of the arts, blending classic and contemporary performances. From the enchanting opening by Grade 3's 'Star Trek' that captured the spirit of the season to the dazzling finale of Grade 10's 'Bedazzled!', the event showcased a rich array of musical and theatrical talents. Students brought iconic works to life, including selections from Matilda, Annie, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, Pitch Perfect, High School Musical, Mamma Mia!, and The Greatest Showman. With a blend of choir, live solo performances, and dramatic flair, all delivered in true Broadway style, the concert celebrated creativity, cultural appreciation, and community spirit, leaving the audience deeply inspired by the transformative power of the arts.

SLUMBER PARTY

Date: 11-13.12.2024

Grades: Jr. Kg to 2

The Slumber Party was a delightful and fun-filled event for children. The little ones arrived in their cosy nightwear, carrying their favourite soft toys, and were warmly greeted with badge stickers. Each grade experienced a series of engaging activities such as aiming balls into cups, scooping cotton balls, ringing trees, hair braiding, and bouncing in a bouncy castle. Themed tents offered creative corners like ‘Let’s Scoop It’, art stations, and the lively ‘He He Ho Ho’ command game.

Adding to the excitement, the children enjoyed a short film screening with delicious popcorn and later danced their hearts out during lively music sessions. The event concluded with refreshments, where every child left with a juice, cake, and a treasure trove of happy memories. The Christmas-themed slumber party truly brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments to all!

FIRELESS COOKING

Date: Jr. Kg (23.10.2024) & Sr. Kg (10.12.2024)

Students participated in delightful fireless cooking activities, fostering creativity and promoting healthy eating.

Jr. Kg: The little ones prepared a quick and healthy snack by bringing ingredients such as fox nuts, cornflakes, dry fruits, peanuts, and salted boondi, assigned according to their roll numbers. These were combined in a large bowl with a sprinkle of spices to enhance the flavour. The children relished their delicious and nutritious creations, learning about the importance of healthy eating through this hands-on and enjoyable experience.

Sr. Kg: Embracing the festive spirit, the children participated in a Christmas-themed cooking activity. Each child brought a Parle-G biscuit, which was transformed into a delightful Christmas tree cookie using hot chocolate as the base. Students enthusiastically decorated their cookies with chocolate chips, gems, and sprinkles, showcasing their creativity and fine motor skills. The session ended with happy smiles as the children savoured their festive treats.

Both activities were a perfect blend of fun, learning, and teamwork, leaving the children with valuable lessons and cherished memories.

RHAPSODY OF ROCK

This event was a vibrant celebration of music, featuring 16 talented bands. Held across three dynamic slots, this platform for artistic expression helped students showcase impressive skills on instruments like the drums, guitar, ukulele, and keyboard, complemented by soulful vocal performances. Parents were invited to witness the dedication and passion of the young performers, whose hard work shone on stage.

This event held on Children's Day, was a celebration of creativity for students Student council members (Grade 10) organised a series of non-competitive events to encourage students to showcase their talents. Activities ranged from Literary and Performing Arts to Artistic Alley and Press Corps, with unique events like ‘Who's Dr. Seuss?’, ‘Spoonful of Imagination’, and ‘Proud to be a Geek’ for Grades 3-5. Students participated with great enthusiasm, receiving certificates for their best performances. A newsletter featuring event photographs was presented, and all students enjoyed cake and a five-star chocolate bar as part of the celebrations.

ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET (SENIORS)

Venue: Wings Arena, Bandra

The Chief Guest, Brigadier Pravin Shinde, declared the event open, emphasizing discipline and hard work. Highlights included the March Past by the four houses, PT displays by Grades 5-7, and pyramid formations by Grade 10 students. A Relay race with parent and alumni participation added to the excitement, and the event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and a closing March Past by the student council. The winners were awarded trophies in recognition of their grit, determination, and hard work, with champions proudly lifting their trophies in celebration of their achievements.

AUTUMN CONCERT - THE ENCHANTED WOOD

Theme: The Enchanted Wood

Venue: Shanmukhananda Auditorium.

The curtain raiser performance and featured a collaboration of technology and dance by a Grade 2 student, followed by magical land dances by Grades K-2. The concert sent the audience on an imaginative journey, ending with a vote of thanks by the Principal who in her speech emphasized the importance of nurturing essential life values like gratitude, patience, and courage while allowing children to follow their dreams and grow into compassionate, resilient, and empathetic individuals who can make a positive impact on the world.

ISC ORIENTATION

Grades: 10

Mrs. S. George, Principal - Bombay Scottish, Powai, conducted an informative session for Grade 10 students, along with the ISC Coordinator, Career Counselor, and a PACE resource person. She debunked myths about educational boards, highlighted ISC’s scoring potential, and showcased the school’s excellent faculty and numerous student-led initiatives.

The ISC Coordinator encouraged students to continue their journey as Scottishites, while Varun and Brooklyn shared how organizing school events boosted their confidence and leadership skills. The PACE resource person explained the curriculum’s flexibility. The session concluded with an FAQ, where the Principal addressed all queries, leaving students confident and motivated.

TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY

The Student Council hosted a Teacher's Day assembly and games, featuring dance and music performances. Teachers participated in a fun pageant, and Grade 10 students managed the school for the day. Grade 10 students were allowed to wear Indian/Western formals for the occasion.

MUSICAL MORNING

Introducing music to young minds is a joyous experience, fostering their development in numerous ways, from enhancing motor skills to boosting emotional expression. In this spirit, a Musical Morning was held at Bombay Scottish School, Powai, in the Mark David Hall.

Each division performed two songs, one spiritual and one popular, creating a delightful atmosphere. Parents enjoyed watching their children sing meaningful songs, and it was truly a treat for the ears. The efforts of both students and teachers were highly appreciated, making the event a memorable success.

Students highlighted the significance of this day, observed annually on March 24 to honour Monsignor Oscar Romero, who was martyred for his stand against injustice. The assembly opened with a prayer for victims, followed by a film illustrating human rights violations and the importance of taking a stand against social injustice. Inspired by Oscar Romero’s words, “Those who have a voice must speak for the voiceless,” the assembly emphasized the need to address global issues and protect human rights.

The programme aimed to promote reading and expose interns to entrepreneurship and marketing. The interns—Param Naik, Ranit Senthilnathan, Jolene Kotian, Aditi Suresh, Rebecca Stalin, Shivank Tandon, Venzil Lasrado, Trisha Sain, Shaurya Agarwal, and Avika Gutgutia of Grade 10—engaged peers through various reading activities, fostering increased participation and developing skills in collaboration, communication, and marketing.

The programme began with an introduction by Mr. T.V. Madhu, and the interns named their company ‘Booknook’ with the slogan ‘Page by page, we explore and engage’. Activities for Kindergarten to Grade 8, including storytelling, crafts, and quizzes, enhanced student engagement. Interns also tracked book sales, reflecting the success of their initiatives.

The programme concluded with final presentations and internship certificates, equipping the interns with valuable skills while fostering a love for reading across grades.

This year the Annual Christmas Concert not only showcased remarkable performances but also served as a platform to emphasize and celebrate fundamental ideals that constitute the bedrock of human existence.

The event commenced with an invocation and a warm welcome address by Ms Selvaraj, the Senior Academic Coordinator, creating a festive and inclusive atmosphere. The programme featured diverse performances, including the lively segment ‘Anna's Christmas Overture’ by Grade 1 and a soulful rendition titled ‘A Celestial Noel’ comprising a Latin hymn ‘Santus’ followed by the divine ‘O Holy Night’ by the school choir. The presence of the Committee of Management and distinguished guests added prestige to the occasion.

The overarching theme of the concert, ‘We, The People: A Chronicle of Shared Vision’, ingeniously highlighted values such as democracy, liberty, fraternity, equality, secularism, justice and others that are pivotal in shaping a just and inclusive society. Throughout the programme, these ideals were intricately woven into the performances in the form of dances, dance dramas and choral recitation, creating a narrative that resonated with the audience. The final performance by Grade 10 students, showcasing a joyful India, was not merely an artistic expression but also a reflection of the core values that bind communities together.

Ms. Kotian, the Principal, further amplified the significance of these ideals in her thought-provoking address. By eloquently hailing the Indian Constitution and its visionary principles of democracy, liberty, fraternity, justice, equality, and secularism, she underscored the importance of these values in guiding human progress. Her speech likely served as a call to embrace and uphold these ideals in our daily lives, fostering a sense of responsibility and collective commitment.
